Science versus Religion
is a war
that neither can win
still we draw battle lines
though we’re all fighting on the same side
when humanity is at stake
when no religious book disputes
the existence of intelligent design
and no textbook fights against
1 plus 1 equaling 2

Somewhere on the slippery slopes of consciousness and sleep
slithers thoughts that never shed their skin
never seen
never seeped in
lingering
in the darkness of fears
layers of lairs of
snakes’ nests upon snakes’ nests
an orgy of a serpent’s imagination
as a hawk’s shadow circles
the skampering mouse
and even the simplest of inspirations
such as hunger
can swoop down from the sky
and gobble us up
before we can even
wonder why.
