Catching the Sunset in a Butterfly Net

Sunrise

as sand sifts and sand sighs

stinging my eyes

sleep rubbed in by early morning skies

by knuckles

still fighting through the dream

while waves of sand come creeping in like a seeping hour glass

now

the sun is shrinking fast

I can’t wrap my arms around her

catch her

make her last

kiss her good night

and when there’s no land and no sun in sight

means seeing has no meaning

no bearing

no being

all as lost as a splash of mud on a blindfolded rodeo clown

useless unless all other stars fall down

so that one star out of an infinity of celestial bodies

can be seen rising in the east

and dying in the west.
