We all breathe beneath the sun
but it’s the scientist who exhales it into solar energy
it’s the magnifying glass that sets the leaves alight like lightning
it’s the sunbather who gets the tan
it’s the careless who get burnt all over their body
and it’s the madman who goes blind watching its birth.
The sun is faith itself
we have faith in dawn
we do not fear dusk
for we know it’s going to return
we don’t have to look at it to see it
we should never look directly at it
or we’ll go blind like the madman
light like darkness
needs to be taken in from the corner of the eye
to be seen clearly in the corners of the mind.
