The Dalai Lama Takes The D Train

Subway meditation

as the subconscious passes through

synapses to

capillaries deep beneath city streets

deep beneath dreams within asphalt skin

lost beneath layers of ozone killing exhaust

linger like smoke halos in the dark

cement shields these very worm holes

where we shoot through like red blood cells

speeding down tracks this side of hell we can’t see

the veins of the city

looking out windows to see only black

so we quietly close our eyes

ignore all advertising

lean back

and dream of the world above

with the faith that we’re all going the right way

and we’ll reach the light of the next station eventually.

…kind of reminds me of my thoughts when I wonder if Earth is just a white blood cell in G-d’s bloodstream and we are the debris it has picked up on it’s way to planned annihilation?

Carl Sagan pointed out in Cosmos that there are as many stars in a solar system as molecules in the human body. Aren’t we all just walking solar systems? And we don’t have to walk into doors and planned annihilation; we can side step to step through to better times.

Interesting parallel between the city streets and subways, and our veins, capillaries, our captivity within these bodies, and our instinctive need to progress into the ethereal “world” of light and wisdom – our next stop. (At least that’s what your poem made me think of!) Nicely done once again, Peter. 🙂

Thank you, Betty! I am always flattered you get anything from my words. I had a similar thought writing this, but, I am always more interested in what you and all readers get, so thank you for giving us your sensitive perspective.

Typing at the speed of smell. And, talking about fastballs, I saw Darvish at Rogers Centre last night. The man can really pitch. He was coming at the Jays with so many speeds and angles, it was almost impossible to guess what he’d throw next. When you come in August, you will see a master at work.

Love the metaphors and analogies here between traveling down in the dark (as a spiritual leader), looking forward to emerging into the light (and the Light, of course!)! Wonderful choice of world figures/religious leaders to have traveling on the D train (in more ways than one, dear friend!) Peter, you continue to let us see you are MUCH smarter and more creative than you pretend!

Rose! You see through like an x-ray. Sometimes you see more than me making me see I’m smarter than I thought. Knowing a reader with your eyesight reads my stuff gives me confidence to let the stuff speak for itself. Thank you.
